Clients in the News: Horse Thief Hollow wins Gold at U.S. Open

July 31, 2026

Horse Thief Hollow’s “Wrenly Rose” won gold in the Barrel-Aged Pale Beer category at the U.S. Open Beer Championship held in Ohio on July 15.

The U.S. Open is one of the largest beer competitions in the United States, with more than 180 categories and subcategories. “Wrenly Rose” also took home Gold in the 2020 Festival of Barrel Aged Beer. The beer is a Belgian-style Tripel agent 26 months in Pinot Noir barrels from Wren Hop Winery in California.

“Wrenly Rose” was part of a packaging system redesign by Studio Malt. The illustrations for the large format packaging––for the brewery’s barrel-aged beers––was done in collaboration with wonderfully talented illustrator Brittney Sikora.

The layered paper artwork is a continuation of the similar storybook paper-cut style we have executed for the brewery’s main lineup of 16 oz. cans.
